JENN KELLY

the journey from writing a novel to ... what were we talking about again?

Month: February 2012

Being Rocked to the Core.

Howdy y’all. I could be telling you about how my writing is going (fine) and what I’m working on at the moment (Amish) and what is new (not much), but instead I want to tell you something I learned about on Sunday.

To keep it brief, the congregation learned about the Not For Sale Campaign which is a huge organization trying to stop slave labour. Did you know there are 30 million slaves today? I kid you not. I’m not here to preach. I am not here to ask you for a donation (although do consider buying some of their t-shirts!) but I want to encourage not to shop for specific items. Specific items from specific companies that know they are using child labour/women labour/slave labour for their financial gain.  I have researched and written out all the specifics. Will you take the time to copy them and then not buy those items, no matter how badly you want them? I myself have been torn about buying certain things, but when I think of the pain and suffering I am inducing because I want an object? For shame on me! So without futher ado, here are the items. All items were copies off the free2work website, which also has a fantastic little app that allows you to scan barcodes of items and will tell you if they are using slave labour or not. Isn’t that brilliant? And it’s free and only 4 MG!!!

Please do not turn off your heart or humanity when you read about the following. Please, please make a difference and boycott.

Please. For the sake of everyone, boycott the companies. It is the absolute least you can do. It will take a bit of time and effort on your part, but it will be so worth it in the end. Please visit http://www.notforsalecampaign.org/ for more information.

Soundtracks

Yes, yes, it’ s been awhile.

Things have been happening and I can’t really discuss them because nothing is set in stone yet. But I promise once I’ve figured everything out and everything works to plan, I will share.

So, I’m at the gym today and I’ve got some new music downloaded and you know sometimes when you hear a song it just hits you hard and you can fully imagine a scene in a movie?

Well, I was listening to this. And it hit me.

When I got home I booted up the old Lenovo and my headphones and wrote. Because it gave me a scene and I loved it.

And then I heard this:  and another scene popped into my head.

I wish I could share. But I can’t. Yet.

Don’t you love when  song hits you so hard you can fully imagine the movie scene in your head and you can even taste it?

Sometimes I wish I were making movies….
